To implement the EU climate and energy programmes in the 2021-2027, multiannual financial framework (MFF), the European Commission, with the decision 2021/173/EU, established the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency.
The Agency is based in Brussels and oversees implementing European programs for the environment and climate such as Horizon Europe and Life.
The following agencies are established from 1 April 2021 until 31 December 2028: the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, the European Research Executive Agency, the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency, the European Education and Culture Executive Agency, the European Research Council Executive Agency.
The CINEA shall be entrusted with the implementation of the following (parts of) Union programmes: Innovation Fund, Connecting Europe Facility (Transport and Energy), Horizon Europe, LIFE, Renewable Energy Financing Mechanism, Public sector loan facility, under the Just Transition Mechanism, European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (direct management) and compulsory contributions to Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) and other international organisations.
