Directive 2019/1024 (EU) on open data and the re-use of public sector information (Open Data Directive) replaced and enhanced the original ‘PSI Directive’ (2003/98/EC). It is the legislative backbone of the EU Open Data Policy , whose main goal is to increase the availability of public sector data for re-use, as raw material for innovation across all economic sectors.
EU rules aim to make more publicly-funded information available for new information products and innovation, in particular in artificial intelligence. This implementing regulation defines a list of ‘high-value’ datasets held by the public sector which should be re-usable for free and most of all available in machine-readable format.
