European Parliament – Press Release – #EUGreenDeal #electronicwaste #sustainability
25 November 2020
On November 25, 2020, the European Parliament summoned in Plenary session to vote on a resolution on a more sustainable Single Market, which would have promoted the reuse and the repairs and by tackling practices that shorten the lifespan of products.
The scope of the said measures is to grant consumers a “right to repair” by making repairs more cost-efficient, extending guarantees, providing guarantees for replaced parts, or through a better access to information on repair and maintenance. They should increase measures to tackle practices that shorten the lifetime of a product and endorse sustainable production. In order to reduce electronic waste, they should also increase support for second-hand goods markets and create a common charger system. The role of the EU ecolabel should be boosted so that it is used more by industry and to raise awareness among consumers.
